A Bit About Us and Getting Started
Getting started. The first thing that you need to realize, is that racing within your limits, is quite safe, and much safer than you probably realize. You should start with the basics, the basics being safety. A good quality helmet to start, good set of leathers (first time you use them, and you will, you’ll really appreciate them), gloves and boots. Then safety wire the bike, modify to taste, throw on some bodywork (so when you crash, you’ll still look good on the street) and pick out an organization that you feel good about racing with.
I always thought that racing was only for the wealthy, and those with toys. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The AFM have classes ranging from all out race bikes to a "vintage" class, which is any production-based bike that is a 1985 or older. So you see, you don’t need the latest in technology to go and live your dream. Safety is very much an issue and a priority, after all, isn’t that what is important. I heavily urge you to contact me or an organization if you are even thinking of getting started, but are hesitant due to...well whatever concerns you may have. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed! |
